Is there a difference between treating a horse at an event versus at home? Absolutely—and it all comes down to what we’re targeting.

At events, the primary goal is often performance enhancement. As a certified Acuscope and Myopulse technician, my role is to help your horse feel and perform at its best in that moment. I offer specific treatments designed to boost performance and recovery during competition. However, it’s important to note that if your horse has never been treated before, there may be more underlying issues or tension to address. In those cases, you may not see the full benefits from a single session at an event.

That’s why maintenance matters. Horses on a regular treatment schedule typically respond faster and more effectively. Their systems are already in a better place to receive and utilize the therapy. For this reason, I do not treat legs at an event unless the horse is already on a consistent maintenance program. If there's an undiagnosed issue, the therapy could potentially aggravate it instead of helping.

When treating at home, I can perform a full evaluation and take time to understand your horse’s individual needs. This allows for more targeted, well-rounded care. Typically, after 3–5 consistent sessions, a horse’s body becomes what we call "open," meaning the cellular charge is fully optimized. This enhances healing and cuts recovery time by up to 50%.

Regular at-home sessions provide several long-term benefits, including:

  • Earlier detection of issues

  • Faster, more effective treatment

  • Quicker return to training and competition

  • Optimal performance when it matters most

When a horse is “open” and on a maintenance schedule, event-day treatments can offer the full performance enhancement effect—helping you and your horse compete at your peak.
